Hardware Applications and Design Engineer
Job Summary
Hardware support of customers using Gigle reference designs, performance evaluation of new customer product developments and support of EMC and safety compliance testing.
Designing hardware platforms to support multiple levels of product development including: prototyping, evaluation and reference designs.
Primary duties and responsibilities
Responsible for hardware support of Gigle customers, including performance evaluation of new customer designs, technical support, on-site support.
Responsible for participating in all phases of customer product development from specification, design and test through to sign off and support to production.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in electronic hardware design for communications, complemented with knowledge of software, and the ability to work in structured and orderly manner.
Additional responsibilities may include management of 3rd party sub-contractors undertaking prototype manufacture/test and Standards compliance testing.
Qualifications and Experience
The following skills and experiences are required:
- 5+ years circuit design experience.
- Knowledge of electronic hardware design specifically telecommunications design with preference for candidates experienced in powerline modem design.
- Good understanding of schematic capture tools and PCB layout techniques.
- Proficient in a wide range of electronic laboratory test equipment and software related tools.
- Compliance testing (FCC, ETSI, etc) – EMC and electrical safety
- Experience of customer support including support of worldwide customers.
- Work effectively across groups of diverse disciplines.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
In addition it would be beneficial if the candidate has experience or skills in the following areas:
- C programming in an embedded environment
- Good communication skills. More than one (English/Spanish/Chinese/Japanese/Scottish) language skills a bonus!
- Ability to work in multi discipline, multi-site teams.
