Gigle’s Market Success

Sophia Milenkovic, 26 July 2010

Since Gigle’s first product launch with Belkin a year ago in July 2009, the company has had tremendous success getting over ten customers, who are either about to go into production or are actively shipping products. Some of these customers include a leading supplier of broadband access equipment, Sumitomo; Netgear – a leader of innovative networking products; Aztech a leading manufacturer broadband and home networking products in South-East Asia; and Solwise ltd. a UK based distributor of telecoms and computer products.

Expect to see many more customers announcing in the forthcoming weeks.

EDN Innovation Award Finalist:GGL541 intelligent multi-PHY switch

Sophia Milenkovic, 28 April 2010
Gigle Networks entered the category of finalists @ EDN’s 20th annual innovation awards
Category: Networking
Finalist: GGL541 intelligent multi-PHY switch, Gigle Networks

Powerline networking technology leverages the most location-pervasive pre-existing wiring topology in homes and offices, and as such represents a compelling alternative to relying on (or retrofitting to expand the topology of) alternatives such as phone lines or coaxial or Cat5e Ethernet cabling. However, powerline technologies have long suffered from a combination of unreliability and unremarkable performance, both issues that Gigle Networks attempts to resolve with its GGL541 multi-PHY switch. Building on a backward-compatible HomePlug AV foundation, the GGL541 also implements proprietary Mediaxtream and Xtendnet technologies for enhanced performance, coverage, and reliability. Mediaxtream provides a 1-Gbps (peak PHY rate) channel that leverages the 50- to 300-MHz frequency band, trading off range for boosted bandwidth. Xtendnet intelligent switching directs traffic according to channel conditions, combines multiple channels into a single virtual channel for faster point-to-point throughput, and (addressing the earlier range comment) enables network nodes to act as repeaters to improve coverage.

Pushing for Business

Sophia Milenkovic, 18 March 2010
A Few weeks ago the Gigle Networks team attended CeBit , the biggest and the busiest European tradeshow.
The event had special significance for Gigle as Spain was the CeBit partner country for 2010.
With a booth area in the HomePlug Alliance Pavilion, and a private meeting area, Gigle’s presence at the show was complete. The WiFi PlC demo, previously shown at CES January 2010, was the central demonstration presenting a new and exciting partnership between Gigle’s anywire solution and wireless connections. In addition to that, the low power demo was unveiled, indicating Gigle-technology’s compliance with the European low power requirements. A series of successful meetings with future customers and partners kept the team very busy during this 5-day show.

What’s in a name?

Michael Wilson, 18 November 2009
Yesterday we changed the name of the company from Gigle Semiconductor to Gigle Networks.
We decided to do this some time ago. Yes, Gigle is the only company delivering “home network on a chip” solutions that communicate over more than one wired media at the same time. But what really sets us apart is the technology we have developed to tune the network for optimum coverage, maximum performance or lowest latency according to the quality needs of the application. We do this by intelligently switching traffic between the connected media. The intelligent switching agent, which we call xtendnet™, can coordinate the channels running on each media completely independently or bond them together for maximum performance. We want our name to reflect the fact that our key technologies go beyond the chip level. We provide solutions that touch the network at every level: configuration, administration, and traffic management – we are a networking company.
The holy grail of home networking is 100% coverage – reliable connection to every device in the home – wired or portable – every time. This has been our goal since day one. The ability to intelligently manage traffic over all media – wired and wireless - is going to occupy the creative talents of many engineers over the coming months and years. Gigle has a head start. Others will follow. We began work on our intelligent switch four years ago and it is now being used in earnest in homes throughout the world. We continue to refine it.
This is important enough for us to change the name of the company. But not the Gigle part
Gigle Invades Perthshire

Each year the entire Gigle team gets together for a few days of discussions, team-building and fun. This time around we invaded the Perthshire countryside and made good use of the salubrious amenities of the Crieff Hydro. Amongst other things the group experimented with golf and whisky tasting. Check out the photos on Gigle’s facebook page.
